Hi everyone! It's been a few days since I wrote. We have been doing a lot of driving with a little sight seeing along the way! Still having fun! Before we left Custer State Park we hiked for about three hours - it was unlike any hike we had been on before. Massive Rock formations - the stairs that you see Jon on are the parks way of getting you through the boulder field. It was fantastic.
Then we left for the Badlands which we had heard a lot about. Another one of those strange but fascinating geological formations in the middle of no where. Our pictures couldn't begin to capture what we saw. They tell us that these spires and cliffs were formed by wind and water bringing in volcanic ash from the West. Hmmm there ya go!
We drove on to Wall, SD - anyone that knows anything about South Dakota knows about Wall Drug Store! A full block (at least) of stuff and more stuff and a restaurant, nickel coffee, homemade doughnuts, jewelry stores, leather goods. We got sidetracked trying on cowboy boots - some of the prettiest I have every seen. My favorites were lepoard skin of course, hand made! We decided not to spend the money today!
Since then we have been driving and learning how to do this kind of traveling. We drove to Rochester, MN - home of Mayo Clinic - had a wonderful time downtown - this city is always tops on the list of best places to live in the U.S.
Then on across Wisconsin - my apologies to friends Bob and Penny Rice - I think we overlooked the possibilities there. If we had to do it over again we would go to Green Bay and down the coast of Lake Michigan. I am sure we missed some beautiful sights! We did grocery shop at one of
the nicest stores called Festival. However it was during Green Bays game and I think it's a sin to do any thing but watch the game in Wisconsin!
Jon started thinking about watching football on the small TV that came with the motor home so he and Dan went out and bought a big flat screen while we were in Bozeman! So the last picture is us watching the Oregon/Stanford game - Jon makes sure we only stop where we can get cable. Priorities.
We are close to Chicago which I suspect will be our next stop so ta ta for now. Miss our friends!
